This was so bad I struggled to read to 21% due to the lackluster writing and annoying female lead, Liberty. She was incredibly annoying from the get go and showed her biatchness within the first couple of pages that had me completely questioning her character. I think we were supposed to see how tough she was, but it only had me saying to myself "wait, what and why did she come out throwing punches to some poor unsuspecting guy". I get he accidentally hit her with a ball, but her ferociousness and profanity about it was uncalled for which made me immediately dislike her. I am not at all a prude, but the whole scene set the stage for who Liberty was for me. Continuing on with the story and she seems to have an anger management problem blowing up over silly things.

Minor spoilers....The insta-love thing was ridiculous with Shayne and how her panties got all wet for him at her first run in with him. One of her BFFs, Brett, who became her BFF after like 3 days and she knew she could trust him with anything, was written in as the impending conflict between her and Shayne. He was showing her signs almost immediately that he liked her and regardless of the fact she doesn't return his feelings, she sleeps in the same bed as him for convenience reasons wearing a short t-shirt. She wakes up and freaks out when she finds his hands under her shirt.

As another reviewer said, I'm glad I waited until this book went on sale for $.99 because I don't feel at all guilty for deleting it from my kindle and diving in to one of the many other books on my kindle.

Giving this book 2 stars was more than generous. I can't get myself to finish. I can respect the author's willingness to write such detail oriented chapters, but there comes a point where it became too detailed. It gets annoying after a while, shows that the author was running out of meaningful things to say so just substituted with over-detailed "fluff".

Writing needs vast improvement. For example "While I ate, I stared out his kitchen window that faced the beach, and the water was remarkably calm today." That is two sentences that were "edited" to become one horribly written sentence i.e a run-on. It doesn't make sense and it doesn't flow. Try "While I ate, I noticed how remarkably calm the water was." You don't need to reiterate that his kitchen window faces the beach." Also, you don't need to state every snippet of detail that the character is doing and thinking. I can go on and on. But I would rather not.

Imagine coming home from a great day at school filled with happiness and then watching as one action can tear your whole life apart within mere seconds ? That is what happened to Liberty when she discovered her brother dead. This part tugged at my heart as I had one of my best childhood friends - a guy too commit suicide the way Liberty's brother did and whilst reading it , all I could imagine was the pain that my friend's brother went through as he was the one to find him. What happens next is Liberty decides in order to move forward with her life and save herself from going under, she must up and leave all that reminded her of her brother AJ. Liberty ends up in Savannah and soon meets brother and sister Brett and Maddie. Maddie and Liberty become good friends and end up roomies. Enter Shayne, Liberty has never felt this strong about anyone before and vice versa and starts to date Shayne but what happens when she is about to move forward with him and she discovers a dark secret about his past involving Maddie ? Can she ever trust him again or will Liberty be too hurt to spend time with him and be with him ? Is this the end of Liberty's second chance at happiness or will there be an opening where Shayne can prove to Liberty that he has really changed and deserves a second chance ?
Relinquishing Liberty reminded me a bit of the movie "Crossroads" with Britney Spears etc.
I'll give it 2 * because I did finish it...but it wasn't easy. The writing wasn't great with a lot of grammatical errors...missing words, incorrect punctuation, and portable use of plural forms. The dramatic twist was obvious from the beginning and required you to believe her roommate and closest friend never seen her boyfriend or heard her utter his name in 2 months! And the roommates brother knew and never said a word either! I spent to last 60% of the book thinking that the book should be over by now and yet it just dragged on.
I thought Liberty was a brat. I understand she had been through a lot but she was immature, moody, and bratty...all the time. The dialogue felt forced an not authentic.
And the way the author discusses the suicide is TERRIBLE! A blurb after the bookends about the suicide prevention hot line does NOT make up for her callousness throughout the story. The feelings of loss, confusion, and even abandonment are believable. But to repeatedly refer to the deceased as a coward and then have other characters confirm this belief is disgusting and shows a complete lack of research and even empathy. I hope that any reader whose life has been affected by suicide doesn't pick up this book.
