The Warrior Heir The Heir Chronicles Book 1 Cinda Williams Chima Books
While waiting for the 5th installment of the Falling Kingdoms series, my attention has been diverted to Ms. Cinda Chima's work. She has first caught my interest on the Seven Realms series. I have devoured that series in a month-span. My urge on Fantasy just cannot be satiated, and so I have continued on with The Heir Chronicles series. Well, book one is another good read for me. The story derives from the Wars of the Roses in Britain but with magic and other mystical powers. A guild is formed by five members: wizard, soothsayer, enchanter, sorcerer, and warrior. In this guild, the wizards are the masters who abuse their powers and manipulate the Rules of Engagement to their advantage. If the Wars of the Roses are divided into two houses (Lancaster and York), this series is the same...it is divided by two factions (White Roses and Red Roses) whose wars and disagreements never stop. Then, there's Jack Swift who is borne a wizard but becomes a warrior--which is a rare situation to come by. So, his life is constantly in a brink of death due to the two factions in war. These are just some of the reasons what make this first installment interesting. I just love the work of this author.Tags : Amazon.com: The Warrior Heir ((The Heir Chronicles, Book 1)) (9780786839179): Cinda Williams Chima: Books,Cinda Williams Chima,The Warrior Heir ((The Heir Chronicles, Book 1)),Hyperion Books for Children,0786839171,FBA-|283140,Fantasy - General,Fantasy,Fantasy fiction,Identity,Identity (Philosophical concept),Identity (Psychology),Identity;Fiction.,Magic,Magic;Fiction.,Wizards,Wizards;Fiction.,Action & Adventure - General,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),Fantasy & Magic,Fiction-Fantasy,JUVENILE,JUVENILE FICTION Fantasy & Magic,JUVENILE FICTION Legends, Myths, Fables General,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile FictionAction & Adventure - General,Juvenile Grades 7-9 Ages 12-14,Ohio,Science fiction (Children's Teenage),TEEN'S FICTION FANTASY,United States,Wizards,Wizards;Fiction.,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Fantasy General,Action & Adventure - General,Fantasy & Magic,JUVENILE FICTION Fantasy & Magic,JUVENILE FICTION Legends, Myths, Fables General,Juvenile FictionAction & Adventure - General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Fantasy General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),Science fiction (Children's Teenage)
The Warrior Heir The Heir Chronicles Book 1 Cinda Williams Chima Books Reviews
Wow! What a fresh twisting tale of wizards, warriors, enchanters, etc. The people came alive with great character development, and a lovely picture of the interactions between them. Very refreshing to read, with a satisfying ending. Fantasy and drama at its best!
I was recommended The Warrior Heir by a bookseller as an easy, exciting summer read. I was definitely not disappointed. The story is a fast-paced mix of teen coming-of-age and magical fantasy. Easy enough for teems to read with substantial plot and suspense to keep an adult interested, I would recommend this book to anyone who felt let down by the Potter series. There were enough loose ends to build on this first book, but not so many you're let hanging at the end. I would have prefered a few more details about the 5 guids of the Weir, but maybe more will be revealed in the 2nd book (The Wizard Heir) which I am about to start reading tonight!
This book follows the story of Jack. Living a regular life, he finds out that he has a stone in his chest that makes him a warrior. Ah, but of course there is a twist, he was supposed to be born with a wizard stone instead of a warrior stone. This book takes you through Jack's learning process of becoming a warrior, his training, life as a teenager, love, and of course a final battle. This book has some interesting turns in it, and it makes for a fantastic read!
"The Warrior Heir (Heir Chronicles Book I)" by Cinda Williams Chima is an amazing, entertaining, and enjoyable YA fantasy/adventure story/series that most young readers will like. The use of modern day settings combined with the likable protagonists, action, magic, pacing, and original storyline are engrossing. The authors writing style is captivating, the battle scenes are fresh and intense, and the relationships and loyalty are refreshing. A must read for fans of YA adventure genre...4 stars!!!!
I'm a huge fan of Cinda Williams Chima, and am slowly working on getting her books on kindle, as well as having most of them in book form. I will say that while one of the book review says it's for grades 5-9 another says grades 8 to 11, I would probably put it more in the range of grades 7-11, unless they're a really big fan of magic, fantasy, etc. I think it's also great for adult audiences who just enjoy a fun story involving magic.
It's full of fun, and it keeps you interested through out, and hopefully makes you want to read the next book.
It took me a long time to read this book. I set it down frequently when something better came along. And, I often didn't want to pick it back up. 200/400 pages into the book is when I really started wanting to read it. The background was replaced with more plot/action.
I think any Rick Riordan fan would like this book; it's a very similar writing style. I love that I found a good author to recommend to my students after they have finished Rick Riordan's books. This one just took me a while to read.
Cinda Williams Chima did an awesome job of bringing her characters to life. I'm a fan of fantasy and this was a wonderful and pleasing read. Although it targets a young crowd, it's the type of story that anyone can be drawn in and carried away. Wizards, Warriors, Enchanters, a family sword, great friends, and a touch of romance brings this story alive. You meet Jack, his crazy Aunt, and his many protectors...and there are quite a number of them that work to keep this young boy alive as he discovers his life isn't as it seems. Beating in his wizard inherited heart is a warrior stone which makes Jack popular in the wizard world and. . . a target. You follow Jack and his many supporters as they fight to keep him safe from having to fight in a tournament he's doomed to lose...or is he?
Read and find out!
I'm looking forward to seeing what Book 2 brings.
